Our Mission
A Family Resort in Ao Thalane, Krabi - Welcome to our family-owned and operated resort in beautiful Ao Thalane, Krabi. Since 2005, Melina’s Monkey House & Whale Bar has been lovingly run by Peter, Oi (Rungtiwa), and their daughter Aly.
Oi was born and raised in northeastern Thailand and later moved to Bangkok, where she spent most of her career at the prestigious Oriental Hotel’s fitness and spa center. Peter, originally from Perth, Western Australia, started as a sports consultant before managing a group of fitness centers in Hong Kong. Work eventually brought him to Bangkok, where fate introduced him to Oi in 1996.
Our Vision
In 1999, Peter and Oi relocated to Phuket, continuing their careers managing spa and fitness centers across Phuket and Phang Nga. When their employer decided to sell its spa business, they took over ownership and still operate the centers today.
In 2005, they discovered Ao Thalane—an unspoiled, peaceful alternative to busy Phuket—and purchased land there. Though it first served as a private holiday home (and even their wedding venue), their love for the area inspired them to transform it into a welcoming resort.
In 2017, Melina Resort officially opened its doors to guests from around the world. Today, Peter, Oi, and Aly maintain their private villa on the property, visiting whenever possible—especially on weekends and holidays. Guests often meet them personally, always greeted with a warm smile and a heartfelt “Hello.”
